With grateful appreciation to the late Anders Johansen this web page
for the JUCH FAMILY of
According to research by Mr. Anders Johansen, his Second Great Grandfather was Johan Frederik Christian JUCH. Based upon his two sons being born in 1862 & 1864 the birth date of Johan Frederik Christian JUCH is likely between 1830-1844 (most likely about 1834 based upon the birth date of the mother of his two children), birth location is unknown at this time.
Johan Frederik Christian Hartvig JUCH appears in the little town Vebbestrup in Denmark in 1862. At this time he was working on a farm in the nearby smaller city Gandrup ( about 1 km. from Vebbestrup, today it will not be called a city - just a few houses and farms). Here he met a young girl, Bretta Lena Larsdatter. She came to Gandrup 1 November 1860 from Aalborg some 40 km. north from Gandrup.
The year before she had arrived in Aalborg, working as a housmaiden in the Grocery Jacoby - from 1 November 1859 to 1 November 1860.
The Church-book of Vebbestrup* says she came from Sweden - born in 1836 - and registrated in the Community of Vebbestrup 15. November 1860.
She worked as a housmaiden in "Gandrupgaard" - a farm that housed the Office and Head of the "Mylenberg Glasswork".
At 9. November 1862 she gave birth to a son, who became all the names of the Father - Johan Frederik Christian Hartvig JUCH, baptised at home 30. November 1862, and in Church 19. April 1963.
Again in 1864 she gave birth to a second son - this time the names were changed. They were more normalised to danish custom with the last / Family -name taken from the Fathers first-name. Lars Frederik Johansen - born 15. February 1864, and Baptised in Church 11. September 1864
The 1. of June 1864 the first son dies, and it seemes that Johan JUCH and Bretta Lena Larsdatter were not able to be married - Bretta Lena takes Johan JUCH to Court in an attempt to make him pay for the child. and here on 4. of October they met in "Bælum Tingkontor", by Judge Hvass. Here she accused him to run from a given promise of marriage, and asking the Court to hurry-up, as Johan JUCH wanted to leave the Country. Johan JUCH was sentenced as the Father of the child, and should pay to the rise of the Child. At this time he worked on a big farm "Hvarregaard" in Vebbestrup*. His payment a year was 50 "Rigsdaler", and Brettas only 30 "Rigsdaler" - and the Court declares his payment to his son to 14 "Rigsdaler" a year.
In the end of 1863 the "Mylenberg Glasswork" were closed - the old Director Rathmann dies in April 1864 - and here the story ends, - howewer their son Lars Frederik Johansen stays in the Community his whole life - his Parents seemes to disappear, but grown-up he is able to buy a smaller farm near "Hvarregaard", getting married with a girl Mariane Christensen from a farm in True - just besides Vebbestrup, and raising 7 children.
* Vebbestrup in Denmark is a small town about 10 km. north of Hobro. It is situated at the old mainroad from Hobro to Aalborg.
A little north of Vebbestrup is another small town named "Rold". This town has given name to the big forest of Rold. This forest had in older days a bad reputation. rubbers vere plundering the travelling, and it was an unsafe place. Deep in the middle of the forest was a castle with a local nobleman - the Castle "Stubdruphus", very big and vell fortified, with graves and earthwalls surrounding a huge brick-tower and other buildings. The small city Gandrup just 1 km. from Vebbestrup lies in high land, and east of the mainroad is a small lake named "Hvarre sø" or "Gandrup sø" ( "sø" is danish for lake) In this lake was another strong castle, and from here comes the following tale from mid 1300:
" Hovmandsdalen at the edge of Rold Forest are named in course of the legend by the Knight Hovmand to the
Castle of Hvarre who was killed with his 30 men in a battle with the Knight from the Castle Stubdruphus, who
had run away with Knight Hovmands daughter."

daughter and son-in-law – Anine Johansen and Karl Christenen. They bought a smaller farm in Nysom, Ravnkilde sogn, and after the
death of Mariane, Lars Frederik

Mariane came from the small town True near Vebbestrup, and from there comes the following tale according to Mr. Kræn Bak’s memories.
“At this time True was the most criminal city in these surroundings. There was a family that ruled the whole True – people called them:“the bad Krestjaner of True”, they all were named Kristian, Kresten or like that. Often people vere murdered or hurt, and at at last the Police gave up. Worst of all were Nine-Kristjan, who became his nickname by murdering 9 people, and burning of the whole city af Tobberup after a
dispute. He went to Jail, not because of his crimes but because he called the Judge a “Kjæltring” ( a very bad word) Years later he came back and lived in True. When he died nobody followed him to the funeral.”
Alfrida Hansine Rasmine Rasmussen and Christian Hartvig Johansen.
They build a farm at Brøndbjerg Hede, Rostrup sogn, about 1912 and sold it in 1952, vhen they moved to Støvring, buying half of the house of the son Winfred Johansen.
